POLICE have named the driver who was killed when his car smashed into a tree in a New Forest village.

Philip Waldron, from Dibden Purlieu, died at the scene of the crash in Buckler’s Hard Road, Beaulieu, last Tuesday morning.

The 65-year-old was driving a grey Peugeot RCZ when it came off the road. He was trapped in the wreckage and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Part of the main Beaulieu to Buckler’s Hard route was closed for several hours following the crash, which police have confirmed involved no other vehicles. The circumstances of the collision are still being investigated.

The road has seen two other fatal crashes in the past few years. Anyone who saw the latest crash, which happened at around 10am, is urged to contact Sergeant Gabriel Snuggs, from the Eastleigh Serious Collision Investigation Unit, on 101, quoting Operation Sidra or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
