Four animals died from smoke inhalation after a barn fire at a dairy farm in Martinstown.
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the incident at 5.25am on Sunday morning.
Crews from Dorchester attended and found 12 bales of straw alight. The bales had been removed from the barn prior to the service arriving.
Two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire, which was brought under control by 6am.
Three heifers and one bull calf died at the incident due to smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire was a defective heat lamp.
