A 90-year-old pedestrian in criticial condition and fighting for her life after a crash in Highcliffe.

The collision occurred at a traffic light-controlled crossing near the Globe Inn pub in Lymington Road at around 5.50pm on Wednesday, and involved a silver Volvo estate.

The elderly woman, who lives locally, was taken to Poole Hospital for treatment. Police say she suffered several fractures and remains in a critical condition.

The road was closed for several hours from the pub up to the junction with Wharncliffe Road while collision investigators examined the scene. Police cordoned off the road and several officers remained at the scene.

A Dorset police spokesperson said the driver of the Volvo was a local woman and she had not been injured in the collision.
