THIS tiny tot was in such a rush to be born that her mum wasn’t able to make it to the hospital.

When Jade Barrett, 27, went into labour at home in New Milton, she thought she would have more than enough time to get to hospital in Southampton.

But daughter Evie Winter Bartlett had other plans, and Jade was forced to give birth in her son’s bedroom less than four hours later.

The new mum, who was taken to Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) Maternity Unit after the birth, said: “I was due to go to Southampton but they were fully booked and didn’t have the room for me.

“They told me they’d call back when they had found us somewhere to go, but it all happened so quickly.”

And while five-year-old son Scott slept on the sofa, his new sister was born in his bedroom.

Jade said: “He slept through the whole thing, and only woke up when Evie cried for the first time.”

Evie’s dad James Bartlett called paramedics just 15 minutes before her arrival after a midwife at RBH heard Jade on a telephone call and realised she didn’t have enough time to travel to Bournemouth.

Jade said: “It was so manic – I couldn’t believe it.

“When I had Scott, the labour took 54 hours, so it was such a shock.”

Evie, who weighs 8lb – the same as her big brother when he was born – was due to arrive tomorrow.

“It’s lovely that she was born on New Year's Day,” said Jade.

“We’re so happy.”
