BUDGET airline Ryanair is cutting some of its services from Bournemouth in the New Year, it has been revealed.

The frequency of some services will be reduced but the number of destinations will remain the same.

A spokesperson for the Manchester Airport Group, which runs Bournemouth Airport, confirmed the changes but stressed the airport is on course to carry up to 300,000 more passengers in 2015 thanks to the arrival of another budget airline, Flybe.

Flybe plans to operate a service to Dublin, formerly operated by Aer Lingus, as well as services to Amsterdam, Manchester, Glasgow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Jersey, Deauville, Toulon and Biarritz.

The news represents a huge boost for Bournemouth Airport and the regional economy with scores of new jobs being created. The airline said the decision would build on its "strong presence on the south coast” when it made the announcement last month.

The airport group spokesperson told the Daily Echo: “Ryanair will not be losing any destinations but the frequency will be reduced. Overall there will be 300,000 more seats for 2015 from Bournemouth Airport.”

Full details of the Ryanair changes have yet to be released but Head of Communications Robin Kiely said: “We are finalising our Bournemouth summer 2015 schedule, which will be launched soon.”
