A CYCLIST suffered head injuries after a collision with a car outside Bournemouth Hospital on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to Castle Lane East, close to the junction with Deansleigh Road, at 8.15pm following reports of a collision between a car and a bicycle.

Police closed the road eastbound between the Cooper Dean Roundabout and the junction with Riverside Avenue while the scene was investigated - and did not reopen until 11pm.

A damaged bicycle could be seen lying in the road near to a silver Ford Focus with a smashed windscreen.

Sergeant Sarah Jones, speaking at the scene, said: “The casualty is a 30-year-old male from New Milton who works at the hospital. He suffered head injuries and has been taken to hospital.”

The road heading towards the Cooper Dean Roundabout from Christchurch remained open throughout, but motorists were unable to turn into Deansleigh Road to reach the main hospital entrance and long traffic queues formed.

On Saturday morning a police spokesman said the man's injuries were "not life threatening or life changing".
