HUNDREDS of people have donned their running shoes for the 10th annual Studland Stampede this morning.

All 500 places in the the event, which started at 11am by the National Trust's Studland Visitor's Centre, sold out as fitness fans signed up for the 12km endurance off-road time-chipped running race.

The Studland Stampede attracts participants of all ages and abilities, organised in conjunction with the National Trust, to allow athletes to run on the golden sands of the Dorset coast.

Victoria Turner, who organises the event each year with Julie Ford, said: " We are so lucky that the National Trust let us do this event on their beautiful beaches and heathland.

"It's a tough course so it does call for mainly strong, gritty runners, but it has grown organically over time, which is great, with a huge amount of people re-entering from previous years."

The winners from the men's categories are Andrew Ridley in first place, Anthony Clark in second place and Clive Kennedy in third place."

Andrew crossed the line with a time of 45minutes and 56seconds.

In the women's category, Lesley Moore took first place, Liz Goldsack took second place and Clare Rook achieved third place.

Victoria added that the event would not be able to take place without their fantastic team of volunteers and support from companies including Cotswold Outdoor, Lush and Dorset Flapjacks.
