POLICE were last night continuing to question a man on suspicion of murdering a New Forest mother-of-five.

Pennie Davis, 47, pictured, was found dead by her husband, Pete, in a field at Beaulieu on Tuesday, September 2.

The supermarket worker, from Blackfield, died of multiple stab wounds.

Police revealed on Saturday that they had arrested three people in connection with the inquiry.

A 37-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been bailed until October 23.

A 22-year-old man remains in police custody on suspicion of murder. Police revealed they had been granted a further 24 hours by magistrates to continue questioning him.

A 24-year-old woman also remains in police custody.

Pennie's family have been kept informed of developments.

Specialist forensics officers have made fingertip searches of the field and a nearby river and police have increased patrols in the area.

Pete, her children and her parents have visited the paddock since the killing, leaving flowers with messages from each member of the family.

A statement released by the family through police said they were devastated by the death of a “remarkable person” and “devoted mother”.

Pennie’s best friend, hairdresser Nicola Crawford, pictured right with Pennie, had paid tribute to Pennie, who had found happiness with husband Peter after marrying in May.

Nicola said: “She started off as a customer but our friendship blossomed from there after I gave her one of my horses, Spratt, who she still had.

“She was so bubbly, quite loud, but absolutely lovely. She didn’t have a bad bone in her body. “ “For a long time she was lonely and her horses were her passion, but when she met Pete through a friend, everything seemed to have finally worked out for her.”
