PEOPLE of all faiths and none are being invited to get involved with the organisation that puts on Poole’s successful Passion Play.

The Poole Passion puts on the Easter play every two years as well as running a series of arts and social events.

The Passion Play, staged a week before Easter, features a procession, headed by an actor playing Jesus carrying the cross.

It heads from Parkstone United Reformed Church in Commercial Road to St Peter’s Church, where the main performance takes place.

Sharon Muiruri, who writes and directs the passion plays, is appealing for people to come along to the organisation’s AGM next week.

She said the plays had begun in 2009. “This time we did five performances and each year it grows in the number of people that take part,” she said.

“It’s become a bit like a new tradition echoing a very old tradition.

“It does follow the Easter story but it’s completely open to everybody.

“Our group is full of people who are of other faiths, non faith, everybody. It’s a totally inclusive group.

“It wasn’t planned as something that was going to continue. It was just a one-off but we found people really enjoyed taking part.

“When the play’s not happening, there have been opportunities to come to stage fighting workshops and all sorts of different things to come to.”

She said the Poole Passion was keen to attract new help.

“What we need more than anything is people that are good at organisation and taking on some of those other skills and management,” she added.

One audience member said of the play in 2012: “I’m not a religious person but I feel like I’ve just had a spiritual experience.”

Anyone interested in getting involved with the organisation is invited to the Poole Passion AGM on Wednesday, September 10, 7pm, at Parkstone United Reformed Church.
