THE second beach festival held at Rockley Park proved so popular that more than 1,000 tickets were sold in advance.

The Poole holiday park was thronging with people keen to pay their £5 to enjoy Rockley Fest and help raise funds for good causes.

“It’s heaving,” said Amanda Bennett, who organised the event.

“Over 1,000 tickets were sold in advance of the day and there are still people turning up on the day. It’s amazing.”

A few light showers during the afternoon did nothing to deter people and it was not long before the sun was shining again.

There was fun for all the family with a stage offering performances from Si Genaro from BBC TV’s The Voice, and Chris Manning from Fame Academy, with comedy musician Matt Black hosting the event.

Stalls, games, pony rides and a variety of food was on offer, ranging from paella, and crepe offered from a vintage cart, to burgers and a chippy, Pudsey was in attendance and there was an open air beer tent.

The event for owners, holidaymakers, local residents and staff to enjoy was raising funds for Children In Need and the charity appeal of Mayor of Poole, Cllr Peter Adams, who attended the event.

His chosen charities are the YMCA (Shore Ideas), Hamworthy Scouts and Poole Young Carers and events will be held throughout his mayoral year to raise funds for them.

“We raised £3,500 last year to be shared between Children in Need and last year’s mayor’s charities,” said Amanda. “I think we are exceeding that at the moment.”

She added: “Hopefully it will become an annual event – that would be fantastic.”
