"Significant" number of cannabis plants seized after police raid

First published in News

A “SIGNIFICANT” number of cannabis plants have been seized by police after a drugs raid in Pokesdown.

Officers raided a property in Rosebery Road last Thursday after receiving reports that there was a cannabis factory at the address.

A number of plants were seized as a result, many of which were near maturity.

Inspector Chris Weeks, of Bournemouth Police, said: “This raid is an example of our positive action against drug dealing in Bournemouth.

“It sends a clear message - drug dealing will not be tolerated.

“I would like to thank the local community for their support of our work in Boscombe against the illicit drugs trade and I urge anyone with concerns or information about such activities to contact Dorset Police on 101.

“All calls are treated with the strictest confidence.”

A 50-year-old man was reported for summons on suspicion of drugs offences following the investigation.

Anyone with information about the misuse of drugs should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.

Only this morning the Echo reported on yet another incident of alcohol-fuelled violence in the town centre (where someone was nearly blinded), and yet the establishment expects us to be pleased they've collared someone for growing a harmless bit of weed.

What an excellent use of taxpayer's money. Looks like no-one will get glassed in the face in Bar So for a while now all that skunk is off the streets.

Well done Dorset Constabulary.

I agree with you chris100, the trouble is the alcohol industry has a massive influence over government policy, rather like the fast food industry in the USA.

24 hour drinking laws were passed in 2003 when the then Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell and her husband had shares in a pub chain and town centres and A & E departments have become no-go areas at weekends for sober people ever since.

Plus the fact, here in Blandford when you walk into town behind the brewery it stinks, they flush their waste into the River Stour whereupon foam and dead fish can be found downstream

It's the anti fun squad in action again ! Just have a look at the violence and carnage caused by alchohol on any given weekend, then for example take a look at Glastonbury, thousands of people listening to some music, smoking weed , and causing absolutely no trouble to anyone. The reason they won't legalise it is because they would not be able to tax it ! Get on with some real work , get out of your squad cars and do a proper day's work for a change.

What a complete waste of police time and tax payers money. We have ridiculous drugs laws in this country that cause more harm and violence than good. Legalise it and its value will be virtually nil, since it clearly grows well in an English garden! No value equals no dealers, which in turn equals no associated offences.

For cannabis, no regulation. For harder drugs that are addictive, such as alcohol, it may help to regulate, but not criminalise. Steeling is criminal, hitting someone over the head to rob them is criminal, but consuming cannabis (or alcohol, cocaine, etc.) is totally up to the individual who is taking it.
