Radio DJ Chris Evans gets parking ticket during visit to Mudeford

CELEBRITY DJ Chris Evans received a parking ticket after apparently leaving his car near a zebra crossing by a lifeboat slipway at Mudeford Quay.

The 48-year-old radio host arrived at the busy quayside car park in a Range Rover at around 12pm on Sunday, July 27.

A picture taken by an Echo reader appears to show the four-by-four positioned next to a zebra crossing and not in a parking bay.

Slipway attendant Chris Coles claims he saw the star leave the vehicle in the restricted area close to two cars parked on double yellow lines, which he says also received penalty notices from a passing traffic warden.

“Because three of them were parked there, everybody else thought they could park on the double yellow lines too and that turned it into a one-track road,” said Mr Coles.

Lifeboat crews sometimes use this route to reach the Mudeford station when they receive an emergency call.

Mr Coles added that a traffic warden had issued the four-wheel-drive with a fine of £60, which would be reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days.

A spokesman for Mr Evans confirmed the Range Rover in the picture had been used by the One Show presenter at Mudeford Quay on the day in question – and that it had received a ticket.

However, he refuted a claim by Mr Coles that Mr Evans had been told he was not allowed to park there or that any conversation had occurred between the pair.

He said Mr Evans had initially considered appealing against the fine but had later decided to let it stand. “It was not on double yellow lines and there was no sign to say parking was not permitted there,” he added.

“Chris would do nothing to impede the RNLI with whom he has a good relationship.”

For a custodial sentence under four years you serve a quarter in prison and then a quarter "on the tag". You are then released on parole for the remaining half. Should you re-offend within the period of your parole you are returned to prison to complete your sentence, or a portion thereof. It does actually happen - sometimes. I understand that the former Councillor can be recalled to prison for this offence even if it doesn't go to court, especially since he was "on the tag" at the time.
