Travellers set up camp in Hamworthy

Travellers at Turlin Moor

Travellers at Turlin Moor

First published in News

ANOTHER group of travellers has set up camp in Hamworthy.

Seven caravans arrived in The Old Camping Field north of Napier Road overnight on Sunday. That is in addition to a group of 28 caravans and motorhomes which have been on Turlin Moor recreation ground since Thursday night.

Borough of Poole is aware of this new group of travellers - but the land is privately leased and the encampment will be handled by the lessee.

Officers have visited the Turlin Moor encampment to serve direction orders this afternoon in a bid to secure an eviction “at the earliest opportunity.”

The council is hoping for a court date this week. The state of the site is deteriorating, according to officers, who have provided a skip, but have not provided toilet facilities.

I like the fact they are slowly moving from caravans to motorhomes.
Motorhomes don't give a second look in comparison to vans towing caravans.
They have the element of surprise.

Because going to a proper site means having to PAY....and that is not what nomadic scroungers do.

So that is 35 caravans/motorhomes at Turlin Moor, doesn't that mean that if the council had gone ahead with their plan to waste £250,000 of taxpayers money on a TSP. We would still be in exactly the same position as now because that temporary site would have been full ?

Now, now children. Let's not argue amongst ourselves. That's what the travellers want - divide and conquer the locals.

This lot are of no concern to the council being on private land. That's what would have happened all over Poole if the 16 places at the two proposed TSPs had gone ahead. The situation wouldn't have been different for Poole residents though - there would still have been illegal camps but on private land.

They wouldn't have used the proposed TSPs anyway because they didn't consider them suitable for safety and other reasons, and there were only a total of 16 pitches. Not enough for the current influx.

None of the MPs will push for a change in the law regarding travellers being a separate ethnic group because none of them would want to risk being accused of racism and therefore lose their cushy jobs.

Only another couple of weeks and they'll be off to the steam fair. Everything will then be peaceful until next July.

Not quite correct, Rockley increased security numbers & denied access to the park.
Some years ago Poole installed a substantial gate at the entrance to the Common with an agrement that Rockley Security would operate this at Dawn & Dusk to save costs. Sadly it was never allowed to be closed due to objections from Friends of Hamworthy Park !!!

Yes, it does. Those 16 pitches were just a token in the hopes of appeasing the natives and taking some of the flack off the council.

Good Morning, I have to mind my Ps and Qs. This morning when I logged on to this page, I received and online message stating that I had upset some people on these pages. For the life of me I cannot see how when everyones comments are very similar to mine regarding such matters as this. As I pointed out to our illustrious Daily Echo, in my email response, it must have been the authorities from the Chambers of the Town Hall.

Do be careful, although I did indicate why is wrong for us to express our opinions, yet it is right in their eyes for the travelers to do what they are doing.

Silence from now.

Good morning. As I have responded to you via email (but thought it warranted saying in public) your warning was nothing to do with the town hall, but for repeated use of racially offensive terms, despite our request not to do so.

To repeat for the benefit of everyone: we don't expect you to agree with the law regarding which terms are racially offensive, but we do expect you to abide by it. if you don't, we're the ones left open to legal action, so we have no choice but to warn and then ban repeat offenders.

Please, don't do it. Thanks!

To repeat for the benefit of everyone: we don't expect you to agree with the law regarding which terms are racially offensive, but we do expect you to abide by it. if you don't, we're the ones left open to legal action, so we have no choice but to warn and then ban repeat offenders. Please, don't do it. Thanks! Sam Shepherd

Answer me this Sam Shepherd. Do the people referred to in your stories come under the Racial Equality and Ethnic Laws you refer to. As you have read yourself, many of us do not think so, but they use that law to their own benefit until such times as this draconian law is changed to reflect the true identity of the those laws.

More needs to be done to ensure that the said travellers illegally using our open spaces and park lands are who they say they are, and can prove that they come under that law, and not just being used for their benefits.
