Travellers set up camp at Hamworthy Park

It has been confirmed that vehicles seen at Hamworthy Park are a legitimate funfair, which is running from August 2 to August 11. We apologise for any confusion caused.

TRAVELLERS have set up camp on Hamworthy Park.

The arrival comes despite efforts by Poole council to lock down sites that were at risk of illegal encampments.

The Borough of Poole said this morning it was aware of the camp and was sending staff to the site.

It comes on the same day the council received a court order to evict travellers from land near the Staples car park on Fleet Lane. Officials were due to serve the order on the camp there later this afternoon.

Travellers were moved on from Hamworthy Park in May after Poole council served a court summons on the camp

Unbelievable! They've only just got rid of the last lot from there!! Still, you can't blame them, it has got one of the best views in the country, particularly at sunset. God bless our travelling community, who add so much diversity and colour to our patchwork social network. (Yes, that was tongue-in-cheek).

Ebb Tide says...

Ah now we have 24 hour site supervision of the premises in Hamworthy park where some are trying to store valuable boating equipment that recently has been reported as stolen twice by the Echo. Hopefully if such equipment gets a third report in the Echo our journalists will have some eyewitnesses to approach for their story.

Every cloud has a silver lining, or so we are told !
