ALL standard entries for the full Bournemouth Marathon have been snapped up, leaving only charity places available.

Thousands of runners signed up for the full marathon, which takes place on Sunday October 5.

But more than 150 charities still have places and they are promising to offer runners vital support and training advice in the build-up, as well as tips on fundraising.

Macmillan Cancer Support is the official charity for this year’s event. Craig Fordham, head of challenge and regional events, said: “Last year over 450 runners raised an incredible £105,000 to fund vital cancer services.

“We’re hoping to raise even more this year, so are asking runners to join Team Macmillan and help us reach even more people.”

Marathon organisers are hoping to raise at least £500,000 this year. Standard half-marathon entries are available and entries are open for the Supersonic 10k and the Speed of Light 5k as well as two junior races on October 4.

And festival director Neil Kilgour said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming back the thousands who supported the event last year plus thousands who will be joining us for the first time.

“I would like to encourage anyone who has ever thought they’d like to take part to grab the opportunity now and enter. Nothing beats that feeling of achieving a goal and you can achieve it in Bournemouth.”
