PUPILS at a Poole primary school are enjoying using a new sensory room.

Youngsters between the ages of four and 11 at Bishop Aldhelm’s School in Winston Avenue are getting the chance to boost their progress thanks to the new facility.

Sensory rooms are highly beneficial in a learning environment and used to develop and stimulate a child’s progress.

“We are absolutely delighted with the room which is used by all our pupils, their progress is accelerated while having fun,” said Scott Tait, assistant headteacher and lead of the Inclusion Team.

“It also becomes a very useful break-out area when required and provides peace and quiet if needed.”

The room was just bare brick at the outset but has been transformed to become a really valuable space within the school.

“Thanks to a donation of £1,000 from JP Morgan we were able to have things completed on a much faster time scale than had originally been anticipated,” added Scott.

“We were able to purchase chairs, keyboards, lights and other items which would have taken quite a time to acquire.

“It has made such a difference to us and we are able to do so much more with the improved facilities.”

Catherine McDonald, a member of the JP Morgan Community Relations Committee, said: “A lot of hard work has gone into the room and it is clearly going to have plenty of use.

“We are so pleased to be able to help in this way.”
