THOUSANDS of people across Dorset sat down with their neighbours for the sixth annual Big Lunch on Sunday.

The event, which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and led by the Eden Project, encourages people across the UK to have lunch with their neighbours once a year.

The Halifax supported the project in the New Leaf Allotment, Muscliff, which included cake stalls, face painting, nail painting and biscuit decorating.

Other Big Lunches in Dorset included a large event in Sturminster Newton organised by the Rotary Club, which had a 1940s theme and included music, games, a treasure hunt, face painting and a fancy dress parade.

Free packs including posters, invitations, booklet and other resources to help organise a Big Lunch are available from thebiglunch.com until the end of June.

Backer the Eden Project is the world’s largest indoor artificial rainforest in Cornwall.
