THE whole community on a Poole estate is pulling together to hold a fundraising day in honour of a much-missed man.

Fit and healthy Shane Stanley, a father of three, collapsed and died suddenly on January 18 having suffered a cardiac arrest at the age of 31.

Now his family, friends and fellow footballers have got together to hold a six-a-side tournament and family fun day on Turlin Moor recreation ground on Saturday, June 21.

“We have a 32-team football tournament and they signed up just like that,” said committee member Julie Bagwell.

“The whole day is coming together amazingly. We know Shane is up there laughing at us.”

Shane’s mum Sue Stanley said: “Most of the teams are ones Shane has played for or against. They wanted to put teams together as a mark of respect for Shane.”

They will be competing for the Stanley Cup, designed by his children Connor, 14, Ellie, 12, and Josh, 11, and during the interval Josh and Ellie will be holding their own team football competition to resolve a family rivalry about who is the best player.

The day will begin with the children unveiling a bench in honour of their dad, overlooking the pitch where he played for Poole Borough FC.

From 10am the tournament and fun commences with a bouncy castle, face painting, memorabilia auction, prize raffle, home-made cakes and hog roast, evening entertainment and much more, raising money for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Shane was found to have the genetic heart condition hypertrophic heart disease and the family, including wife Vikki, decided to support the charity, which promotes a screening programme for young people and to help raise awareness of heart disease.

The genial family man and football fan worked for Barclays and bank colleagues have already held a charity football match in tribute, raising funds for the British Heart Foun-dation.
