Traffic lights upgrade leads to motorists stuck in queues on busy Poole road

Bournemouth Echo: Traffic lights upgrade leads to motorists stuck in queues on busy Poole road Traffic lights upgrade leads to motorists stuck in queues on busy Poole road

MOTORISTS have reported queues lasting up to 45 minutes following works to upgrade traffic signals on a busy main road in Oakdale.

Workmen for Borough of Poole turned off the old signals, at the junction with Dorchester Road and Vicarage Road, on Tuesday, to enable them to replace the poles, which have suffered significant corrosion over the years.

It is predicted that the works will take around four weeks, before the new traffic light control equipment is installed, which is due to be completed by Friday, June 20.

Traffic is currently being controlled by multi-phase temporary signals, while pedestrians are able to use temporary crossing facilities, which Borough of Poole say could mean the roads may become congested, particularly at peak times, while the works progress.

Cllr Ian Potter, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, said: “The works are now at a stage in the process where temporary lights are required.

“This is likely to cause some congestion and we would like to thank local residents and road users for their understanding and patience while improvements to this busy junction are carried out.”

So 4 weeks of this and Herbert Avenue closed next week. Kind of restricts the choice of routes from Upton to Bournemouth. Well planned PBC.

If your going to Bournemouth through oakdale and parkstone from upton it seems your going around the houses a bit?

Surely you'd have the temporary lights running the same phases, and therefore no issues? Or would that be too sensible for the people who brought you the Twin Fails Bodge and Three Clowns Trouble projects?

Amazing how many yellow tabards and hard hats you see there who are very busy talking but not a lot of action - and why not work at night? Oh! That wouldn't disrupt enough would it! So sad.
