TRIBUTES have been paid to the Dorset-based distant cousin of actors Ralph and Joseph Fiennes after he was stabbed in an alleged altercation in a London restaurant.
James Fiennes, 49, who lived with his family in Sherborne, is also related to adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes and was attacked while eating at the Tapestry bar and restaurant in Mortlake on Tuesday.
It is thought he was with a friend when he became involved in a dispute with another man.
He was then allegedly stabbed with a pair of scissors.
The IT consultant and businessman, who lived in Sherborne with wife Caroline and his children, aged 15 and 13, died in hospital.
Mr Fiennes’ brother, Adam, 52, told a national newspaper: “He was a very dedicated family man. He was quiet, unassuming, gentle, kind and interesting. He enjoyed his work and his family greatly.”
James Fiennes had launched the Dorset Soap Cellar and spent much of his working week in London.
A 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder.
