A BIKE ride organised in memory of a soldier killed in 2011 will take place for the fourth year running this summer.

Royal Artillery Commando Warren Jackson, known as ‘Jacko’, died in a motorbike crash on the A31, aged 43.

The father–of-two was a committee member at the Sandmartins Activity Club, which his children attended.

For the past three years a bike ride around Purbeck has taken place, to raise money for the activity club and forces charity Help for Heroes in his name.

Organiser Keith Cranfield said: “Last year’s ride was a great success, raising just over £2,000 to be divided between the nominated charities.

“Not a bad effort considering the economic climate and all the other worldwide events that are organised in the Dorset area.

“We have decided to hold the event again, which will be the fourth year it has been held.

“Sponsorship money raised will again be divided between Sandmartins and Help for Heroes.”

Nearly 50 people took part in the 2013 event.

This year the 20-mile circuit starts at the Purbeck School in Wareham, at 11am on June 29, and finishes on Wareham Quay.

It will be the same route as previous years.

For those cyclists wanting something a little more testing, there will again be the 40-mile route, which comprises completing a second circuit in reverse.

Keith said: “For this year another charity will be included and entrants will be given the opportunity of nominating a charity of their choice .

“A draw will be made to select the charity and an amount of £100 will be given from proceeds to the successful charity.”

A certificate will be given to everyone who completes the ride.
