A VINTAGE warehouse that generates up to 10 jobs and supplies about 225 different traders is under threat because it does not have the right planning permission.
The owners of Molly’s Den have submitted a retrospective planning application for their shops, retail warehouse, cafe, office and workshops in Francis Avenue, West Howe.
But planners are recommending this is refused – a move that could spell the end of the antique warehouse that provides stalls for dozens of individual traders.
Kinson South ward councillor Beryl Baxter has requested the application go before the planning board and a decision will now be made by councillors on Wednesday, April 23.
Planning officers state the commercial estate is allocated as an employment area and not a retail site. Their report states that Bournemouth has a limited supply of industrial employment land and the loss of a large employment unit would have a negative impact on the employment land supply in the borough.
But planning agents Tanner and Tilley, who are representing Molly’s Warehouse, said: “The proposed use generates up to 10 jobs; supplies about 225 different traders and has an annual turnover of about £1.5million.
“Therefore it makes a significant contribution to the local economy.
“The principal activity is not retail and the nature of the use and the bulky nature of the goods displayed, stored, sold and distributed are such that it would not be appropriate to be located within a town centre, district or local shopping centre.”
