New Alum Chine 'super huts' go on sale for nearly £40,000

Bournemouth Echo: New Alum Chine 'super huts' go on sale for nearly £40,000 New Alum Chine 'super huts' go on sale for nearly £40,000

NEW ‘super huts’ due to be built along the seafront in Alum Chine have gone on sale.

The 18 planned extra large beach huts are being offered for sale by Bournemouth Council for £39,950 on a first-come-first-served basis, and building work is expected to begin at the end of the month.

When complete they will be identical to huts already in place on the promenade opposite Vesuvio restaurant. They are part of the council’s £90 million overhaul of the seafront.

Councillor Lawrence Williams, portfolio holder for tourism, leisure and culture, said demand for beach huts in the area was very high.

“There is a 10-year waiting list for both private sites and annual lets in this area, but there is no queue for a super hut, so they are perfect for those who are eager to own a stunning seafront base without the wait,” he said.

Typical of Bournemouth Council pricing them beyond the means of the average local resident. Fingers crossed they'll prove more popular than the Boscombe Surf Pods (or whatever they're called these days) or the tax payer will be left paying for another in a long list of Councils failed money grabbing projects.

Perhaps the cpouncil has learned it's lesson from the surf pod disaster where most still remain unsold ......£89,000 a piece !

What the Echo doesn't point out is that you are not actually buying the hut, merely renting it via a lease - which I believe is only for 25 years. Maybe the Echo could tell us what further annual charges there will be.

Or maybe what happened to that much publicised 'wedding hut' and how many weddings have used it ............. or why the council refuses to tell us how much the Hemingways were paid to paint the surf pods, given that they have lost local taxpayers well in excesse of £2m.

Adding "Super" to the name obviously attracts a ridiculous pricetag, but then if you are stupid enough to pay that price for a beach hut then clearly more money than sense. What actually makes them "super" compared to normal beach huts?

They are 'super' because they have Bournemouth Council's 'steal of approval'.

Why not simply charge to go on the beach - imagine how much that could reduce your council tax

though thankfully all the millions lost at Boscombe seafront came out of the capital fund, which has no effect upon the levels of council tax

as I suspect any money acquired from these sales

still, I'm sure you meant well and naughty folk should not have the cheek to think that the council should be accountable to those whose money it is .... via their council taxes
