AFC Bournemouth earned a deserved point as they drew 1-1 with second place Burnley at the Goldsands Stadium today.

Eddie Howe's men dominated the first half against the team he originally left Bournemouth to manage back in 2011.

The south-coast side took the lead in the 51st minute after Tokelo Rantie converted an Ian Harte corner, one of many for the home side throughout the game.

The Cherries have been very effective from dead ball situations this season, today's goal was their 15th goal from set pieces in the campaign.

Burnley then equalised in the 67th minute as a deflected cross ballooned towards the back post and was struck home by Clarets substitute Keith Treacy.

Bournemouth threatened to restore their lead but were foiled through a series of good saves by Burnley's goalkeeper Tom Heaton, and on one occasion by the crossbar.

The last time the sides met was 14 years ago almost to the day, during the 1999/2000 campaign. Burnley ran out 1-0 winners that day and went on to secure promotion from what was then the old Division Two.

The comparison is a sign that both clubs are heading in the right direction and Burnley will be overjoyed if history were to repeat itself.

The point leaves the Cherries 15th in the league with Burnley staying second.
