Motorists to face more delays as Blandford Road closes for third week

Bournemouth Echo: BURST: A 40 metre section of Blandford Road in Hamworthy is still closed between Turlin Moor and Allens Lane as Wessex Water are carrying out major repairs to a burst sewer BURST: A 40 metre section of Blandford Road in Hamworthy is still closed between Turlin Moor and Allens Lane as Wessex Water are carrying out major repairs to a burst sewer

MOTORISTS are set for yet further delays after it was confirmed that Blandford Road will be closed for a third week from Monday.

Wessex Water will continue to work on a section of the busy main road, between Turlin Road and Allens Lane, following a collapsed sewer, which occurred on Sunday, February 2.

While the road closure is in place, it means that residents are not able to turn left out of Turlin Road, but are able to turn right into Poole.

Upton residents are also not able to get into Poole directly through Blandford Road, but instead have to follow diversions via Holes Bay Road.

A spokesperson for Wessex Water, said that work will continue tomorrow after Southern Gas Network has completed the diversion of their high pressure gas main, which crossed over the sewer, preventing repair works.

She added: “The road closure between Turlin Road and Allens Lane will be in place this weekend and next week, however we are doing everything we can, including working 24 hours-a-day, to complete the work as quickly as possible. For more information, go to wessexwater.co.uk

Monday we were told that SGN were diverting the gas main on Tuesday...here we are four days later and they are doing it today....they knew where the gas main was two weeks ago, why are we still at this stage now.....its crazy... As far as working 24 hours...i assume that standing around under umbrellas chattingstanding by holes in the ground constitutes work...?!?! Am, hopefully, reliably informed that it will be most likely at least two weeks before there is any sign of the road opening, not one week. With how far they have got in the past two weeks that really doesnt surprise me one little bit. Am all for being patient but seriously they just dont seem to be getting a move on...

It's not as if this is on a side road is it just happens to be on one of the major arterial roads into Poole ,and is not just causing chaos in Hamworthy it is causing rush hour congestion on the other links into Poole town centre holes bay is an absolute nightmare as for getting out of Hamworthy to the bridges expect to be in traffic for 45 mins at least I know I've endured this for two weeks now and getting a tad bored of it now

What I feel is most concerning is if there had been an emergency (there may well have been one) on Friday night with the bridges shut and Blandford Road other than the fire service nothing could get in or out of Hamworthy. Poole Council need to look at how they manage this in the future, they don't put any consideration into managing this sort of situation in Hamworthy.
