THE A338 Spur Road will be reduced to two lanes at Holdenhurst footbridge this evening as council engineers carry out an inspection of the Welcome to Bournemouth sign.

There will be outer lane restrictions in both directions from 7pm tonight until 6.30am tomorrow morning.

Bournemouth Council has yet to confirm the reason for the works, which were announced this afternoon.

The controversial illuminated welcome sign, erected in August last year, was out of action for more than a week last month due to problems with the electricity supply to the area.

Are the Council seriously telling us all that when they spent nearly £80,000 of our money on this 'controversial' sign only a few months ago it did not occur to anyone at any stage to design it so that it could be readily inspected and maintained from the pedestrian over-bridge upon which it is mounted, without any need to ever half close the major A338 road into Bournemouth for the purpose.

It just get's worse and worse..........

No one wanted any of the above but we are all suffering at the hands of those who are entrusted to spend our money wisely, if they were anything but Councillors I am sure court proceedings would have followed for misappropriation of funds.

There are people around the world, quite a lot of people actually, who would love the fact the spur road out of their town had a lane or two closed, so a sign could be examined, is the worst thing that happens to them. Unfortunately for them they have things on their minds such as where their next meal will come from or whether they will survive the day. Get some perspective in your lives.

And finally if the council is so bad; get yourself registered, tell people your ideas and get voted onto it.

Who keeps voting these people in or is it a lack of people turning out to vote? Until we get an elected Mayor here in Bournemouth it will always be the same old guard sitting at the top.

For one month, just one month everyone cancel their direct debits for council tax, wait until you get the reminder in and then everyone send in a cheque, it will get headlines on these useless ****.

Until the council is run by say someone from a business background with no party hymn sheet to sing from the better. As for the Mayor thing, couldn't the Echo drum a campaign for it?
