MP Annette Brooke urges action on rising problem of obesity

Bournemouth Echo: MP Annette Brooke urges action on rising problem of obesity MP Annette Brooke urges action on rising problem of obesity

MID-Dorset and Poole North MP Annette Brooke attended a Parliamentary reception this week marking National Obesity Week.

This initiative, which is running until Sunday, is to highlight ways of tackling obesity.

Mrs Brooke said: “The scale of the obesity problem in this country is growing, and we must do all we can to raise awareness and encourage people to tackle the problem.

“I was pleased to attend this event in Parliament to mark the beginning of National Obesity Week.”

Meanwhile, National Obesity Awareness Week campaign director Chris Whitehouse said: “We are delighted at the level of interest in National Obesity Week, which has been embraced by organisations, associations and charities the length and breadth of the UK.

“There is a common understanding about the problem. We hope this week will be a watershed in getting to the solution both in terms of reducing obesity and supporting those who are already obese.”

The National Obesity Forum’s latest report suggests half the UK population could be obese by 2050 at an annual cost of £50 billion.

If all council didn't allow so many junk food takeaways in any one road this MAY help, Oh of course that will not work as they pay lots of money in business rates, silly me.
Although it is a problem that needs to be tackled, and it's not with extra taxes , education come to mind. The other thing that comes to mind is, it must be said as it is, Obesity, just another word for FAT, yes people are getting fatter! because they eat too much junk food. Fact.

The obesity problem is not growing anywhere near as fast as the simple to resolve energy poverty issue. But of course she insists she will force you to use renewable energy even though the Lib Dem energy policies are literally killing people here in the UK. Over 30,000 avoidable excess winter deaths predicted for just this year's winter season. Absolutely no sense of priorities

Obesity risk starts when the bottle goes into the baby's mouth. I would like to see the government stop having sponsorship from the world's largest baby milk producer for its healthy living campaign.
And its time the health visitors and midwives, employed by the government, stopped taking training and sponsorship from all the formula manufacturers and started learning how to look after babies so that they don't need formula, instead of advising mothers to sleep train(which is pushed very hard on formula websites and at their training for health professionals, which very quickly dries up their milk supplies.

Reduce obesity, easy ! - encourage more people to cycle, for work and pleasure. Reduce (and enforce) speed limits on all of our roads, create proper cycle-lanes (not just 're-branded' pavements) and better educate all road-users.
