Consultation begins on Post Office moving 40 metres down the road into convenience store

Bournemouth Echo: PLANS IN PIPELINE: Malmesbury Park Post Office PLANS IN PIPELINE: Malmesbury Park Post Office

PUBLIC consultation is underway over plans to move Malmesbury Park Post Office into a convenience store.

Members of the public are being asked to comment on the plans, which will see services move 40 metres down Holdenhurst Road into Springbourne Convenience Stores.

Opening hours for full post office services will be almost the same but selected products will be available during longer shop opening hours.

The shop is open from 7am until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays and until midnight on other days of the week.

“We understand how important having a post office is to residents in this area of Bournemouth and we are confident the new branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future” said regional network manager Will Russell.

“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches.”

Mr Russell said the new post office will have three serving positions and will include car tax renewal for the first time.

The consultation will close on January 17 with the new office due to open in March.

Anyone who wishes to make representations should email comments@ postoffice.co.uk, call the customer helpline on 08457 223344 or complete a questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk, entering branch code 213508.

Why didn't they say Tesco Express instead of convenience store? Will the people from the post office keep their jobs or will they go to people who don't care about the older pubic collecting their pension or good service.
Will the next move be Charminster Road post office moving into the nearby TESCO EXPRESS.

Once customers find out they can send parcels cheaper by My Hermes from the same location then Royal Mail will lose out but the Post Office are a separate firm so are not worried unless they are on commission.

One good thing using this store is that's better than Tesco getting the outlet.

I haven't been to a Post Office in 5yrs and I'm 40. Young people probably don't know what it is unless they're an eBay seller. Unfortunately there are generations who just don't use it.

Have used this post office for many years ALL the staff are very pleasant and helpfull. Another english run post office going. Good luck to the postmaster in his retirement it will be a sad loss to the locals, the level of service will be hard to beat, nothing was ever to much trouble in there.
