HORROR fan Sean Cockwell has surveyed the best and bloodiest films in the genre to produce a book of reviews.

Sean, 45, from Poole, has published a book of his film writing with the same title as his website – My Bloody Reviews.

The book collects his reviews from a host of websites, covering films from Werewolf of London, made in 1935, to Troll Hunter and Sand Sharks, both from 2011.

“It’s quite a mix. There are black and white ones there and there are a few independent ones that people may never have heard of,” he said.

Sean previously published Scenes From Behind the Sofa, which detailed 50 titles he considered to be the best horror films of all time, from Night of the Demon to Wolf Creek.

In the new collection, he often finds himself championing titles which go straight to Blu-Ray or DVD.

“Anyone can be a film-maker now. You can just walk down a street and point a camera at something,” he said.

“You’ve got this independent scene going on now, where you’ve got people who haven’t got the resources of a studio but can pretty much do what they want. I think it’s an exciting time for it.”

But he said, while the big studios concentrate on franchises like the Saw and Hostel series, it can be hard for independent films to gain attention.

“It’s always good to find that film that no one else knows about and recommend it to your buddies,” he said.

Asked for his current recommendations for a scary night in, Sean suggests Maniac, the 2012 remake in which Elijah Wood plays a serial killer, and American Mary, also from 2012, in which a medical student becomes involved in body modification.

My Bloody Reviews is available at the print-on-demand website Lulu.com Sean’s website is mybloodyreviews.com

His top picks are: Troll Hunter (2011), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1975), Possession (1981), Fido (2006) and La Antena (2007).
