A VOLVO that does 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds?

Tell me more, I hear you cry.

The new S60 and V60 Polestar have been unveiled and will go on sale in 2014.

But in the UK, you’ll only be able to get hold of the V60 Polestar, as Volvo opts to capitalise on the call for fast estates.

It continues the heritage of historic fast Volvos, like the legendary 850 British Touring Car Championship model.

Christian Dahl, CEO of Polestar, said: “We are proud to present the S60 and V60 Polestar. A car developed for those who share our passion at Polestar: that driving really matters and that a true driver’s car should enable you to enjoy driving all year, on all roads and in all weather conditions. This is a driver’s car for real life.

“With the introduction of the V60 model, we are proud to continue the heritage of fast Volvo estates like the racing 850 BTCC, a tradition deeply rooted among Volvo enthusiasts.”

Derek Crabb, motorsport director at Volvo, added: “Our motorsport co-operation with Polestar has been going on for almost two decades and it is rewarding to see how Polestar can use their experiences from motorsport to engineer such an exciting and competent car.”

Upgrades include modifications to increase rigidity of the chassis to cater for the 80 per cent stiffer springs, up-rated brakes and aerodynamic tweaks.

Power comes from a six-cylinder turbo-charged T6 engine, which has a new twin-scroll turbo and intercooler to produce 350hp at 5,700 rpm and 369 lb-ft of torque at 2,800 rpm.

The engine breathes through a 2.5in stainless steel exhaust system, with a “throaty” engine note promised, and top whack is a limited 155mph.

Delivery begins in June 2014.
