ARTS Council England has given its highest level Artsmark Gold status to Ballard School in New Milton, in recognition of the school’s commitment to, and excellence in, arts education. To celebrate the achievement, the school hosted one of the south’s leading poet’s, Steve Biddle, at a live event to showcase the new status.

Mr Biddle performed original poetry following groups of musicians and actors from the school taking their turns on stage in the school’s purpose built Performing Arts Centre.

To achieve this prestigious award, the school was required to provide evidence of the comprehensive range of opportunities available within the performing arts to pupils of all ages and abilities. The school is justifiably proud of the role performing arts play in the lives of so many of its pupils – in particular in helping grow confidence – and feels the award reflects well the high standards achieved.

Headmaster Alastair Reid said: “I am thrilled that the Arts Council has again recognised our dynamic arts and drama education programme and this also reflects a lot of hard work by our staff behind the scenes. We are delighted to continue our involvement with Artsmark and we have further developments planned that will see us make further progress in this area.”
