SIXTY-four tiny trotters, 16 little piglets and feeding time every two hours – it can only equal the newest arrivals at Farmer Palmer’s.

Daisy the kune kune pig has given birth to her latest litter of piglets, just nine months after the last group tiptoed around the popular visitor attraction on Wareham Road, Organford, near Poole.

Philip Palmer, better known as Farmer Palmer, says that Daisy started giving birth at 1pm on Saturday.

He said: “About 24 hours before, she had started nesting, which is where she grabs large amounts of straw in her mouth to keep the piglets warm, which is a good sign.

“She was big, which really shows as she’s a small breed of pig. She had a litter of 11 earlier this year and a larger group this time has big implications for us, as she only has 13 teats to feed from.

Farmer Palmer says that the new piglets are now available to see in the Animal Barn and believes that in around a week’s time, visitors will be able to come in and bottlefeed them themselves.

“We have around 12 other pigs here, of different breeds, including tam-worth and saddlebacks, which are quite popular, so we hope people will enjoying visiting these too.

“The piglets have come at quite a busy time at the farm, when we are soon due to be visited by Father Christmas, so he will have to bring some very small presents, as the piglets only have tiny trotters.”

Farmer Palmer’s is open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm until December 23, when it will close over the festive period.
