AN ELECTRICIAN from Christchurch is officially among Britain’s top tradesmen.

Gary Jones, pictured right, was crowned top of the trade in the south west in a competition run by Screwfix.

He went on to the finals at Wembley Stadium and is waiting to see whether he will be crowned Britain’s Top Tradesman 2013 and pick up a £27,000 Toyota Proace van.

John Mewett, marketing director at Screwfix, said: “It’s the fourth year we have run this competition and once again we’ve been overwhelmed by the response. Gary and the rest of our top 10 have demonstrated their willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done and it’s certainly no easy task to pick the winner.”

The judging panel includes representatives from Screwfix, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) and the electrical trade body NICEIC. The winner will be announced mid-November.
