SHE may not have had her Eye to the Telescope – but singer KT Tunstall spotted a heart-warming moment on Bournemouth Pier and decided to get involved.

The Brit award-winning star interrupted an interview when she saw a man proposing to his girlfriend on the pier.

She volunteered to take the couple’s picture and gave them tickets to her concert at the BIC. And she said she would dedicate her song Black Horse and the Cherry Tree to them.

But the couple, who had not known who she was, must have had other plans as they did not turn up for the show.

The 38-year-old singer – whose first album Eye to the Telescope spawned the hits Other Side of the World and Suddenly I See – told her audience about the episode anyway.

KT was being interviewed on the phone by Dominic Smith, arts reporter for Newsquest publication The Argus in Brighton, while walking along the pier.

Dominic said: “We were doing the interview and she was coming down the pier. She saw this guy go down on one knee and propose to this girl.

“She said ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe someone’s proposing to someone right near me on the pier. I’ve got to go and say something’.

“She said ‘I think she’s said yes because they’re snogging now’.”

The singer walked over the couple and took their names – Adam Lindeman and new fiancée Hang Nguyen.

When Dominic rang her back to finish the interview 10 minutes later, he says the singer told him: “She said yes and it was a great moment. They didn’t know who I was but I gave them some tickets anyway and told them to come down.”

The singer was then besieged by people who did know who she was and wanted her autograph.

“It was one of the strangest interviews I’ve ever done,” said Dominic.
