AVENUE Q is a remarkable thing for the ‘80s child: the 'Muppets' have grown up with us. While Sesame Street taught us how to count, Avenue Q sees a myriad of glorious technicolour puppets bursting into energetic song about how to pay the rent, how to encourage your room mate to come out and what on earth to do with your life on graduating with a BA in English?

Coming with warnings for explicit lyrics, ‘full puppet nudity’ and a disassociation disclaimer the show is not endorsed by Jim Henson productions, Avenue Q has been one of the most talked about musicals of the decade, winning numerous awards. For someone who had always wanted to see the West End show and managed to miss it, Theatre 2000’s professional standard production was a true delight.

A talented cast boasting voices that would shine easily on a West End stage bring their puppet characters to life with dexterity. Jamie Wells is captivating as puppeteer for whimsical college graduate Princeton, while Georgina Luff plays her puppet with aplomb. Sarah Bayliss gives a lovable Kate Monster with a beautiful singing voice, while Martin Mansfield is hilarious as Cookie Monster-esque Trekkie. Christian Wood and Ollie Slee are also fantastic in their Bert and Ernie style duo as Rod and Nicky.

A professional standard set rounds off this impressive production. Keep an eye out for upcoming Theatre 2000 shows. If Avenue Q is anything to go by, they will be well worth seeing.
