A BOURNEMOUTH youth worker drummed non-stop for three hours to raise more than £400 for two good causes.

Joe Musker was joined by some musically minded friends to make some noise while collecting cash for Macmillan Cancer Locally, based at Christchurch Hospital, and the Youth Cancer Trust.

He says he asked Neal Williams from Macmillan Cancer Locally to crash the symbols to start the drumming at Linwood Youth Centre, at Winton Recreation Ground, which took place on September 7.

Joe described the day as ‘a complete success’ with thanks to some of the members of the youth club, who helped with the event.

He said: “It’s good to see youngsters working to help other young people and from the day we raised £446.74.

He added: “Not only did we have drumming in Bournemouth, but there was basically a wave of drums across the UK with some friends holding similar drumming and fundraising events in Brighton, St Helens and Southport.

“There was probably about 100 people taking part in total, and it took six months to organise, but we are pleased with all the money raised.”

Joe says that he has been playing the drums for 40 years and used to play professionally, but he now spends his time teaching young people who come to the club.

He organised the drumming session to raise awareness of National Youth Work Week, which runs from November 4 to 10.

The week later this year aims to celebrate the achievements of youth organisations, youth workers, and young people across the country and the resulting positive impact of their work.
