A GYM for children based in Southbourne has raised over £500 for a fund created by the Dorset Community Foundation.

SHOKK Youth Gym, which enables kids and young people to use specifically-designed equipment, held a fun Zombie Awareness Day, on September 1, where they created a flashmob around the area of Southbourne.

Money raised from the event was then donated to the Bournemouth Communities Fund, managed by the foundation.

Roxanne Phillips, from SHOKK Youth Gym, said: "Our members are very pleased to fundraise for the Dorset Community Foundation and the Bournemouth Communities Fund, as it is a local charity supporting Dorset-specific causes.”

She added: “Ultimately, people can see the benefit of their donations and fundraising activities on their doorstep.

“We are very proud of all the hard work our SHOKK Youth Gym have put in, and are look forward to raising more money in the future, as well as keeping Southbourne’s children fit and active in the process.”

The gym is a unique concept aimed at five to sixteen-year-olds, with fully-trained staff, who are able to teach children in the fitness-led environment. It is believed to be only the second in the country to operate in such a way.

Dorset Community Foundation runs three separate area-specific funds, including the Bournemouth Communities Fund, to support small charities and community groups based within the town, through grants.

The fund is accepting applications until October 7.
