FAMILY and friends of Kaine Smith who died this year pulled on their football boots to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Relatives decided to put on a match in his memory after he died in May and invited the father of the “butterfly” boys Harry and Cody Churchill to put together the opposing team.

Kaine’s Cup match at Poole Town’s Tatnam ground has raised close to £3,000 for Julia’s House.

The cash was raised through sponsorship, admission to the game, programmes and other fundraising activities and stalls.

The day was organised by Kaine’s aunt and uncle Emma and Arron Fox and friend Mark Thomas.

And among the visitors was football manager Harry Redknapp, who gave a presentation, and footballer Shwan Jalal.

Emma, 33, said Kaine and Harry and Cody’s parents got to know each other at Julia’s House.

Emma said: “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the match and it was a brilliant day.

“We organised the day in memory of my nephew Kaine and he loved football so we thought we would have family and friends playing.”

Kaine’s dad Andy captained Kaine’s Crusaders to an 8-2 win with Kaine’s nine-year-old brother Kyle scoring a hat trick during the fun match.

Kaine, from Poole, died in May aged 11. He battled meningitis as a baby and was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

Harry and Cody Churchill died within two days of each other in March, both succumbing to an infection.

Harry, aged three, and 21-month old Cody were know as the “butterfly” boys as their skin would blister at the slightest touch.
