A WOMAN was flown to hospital with serious injuries after a multi-car crash on a notorious Dorset road this morning.

The three cars collided on the A31 near Corfe Mullen at 11.30am with one of the vehicles ending up on its roof.

A woman passenger in a Peugeot 106 was freed from the vehicle and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance took her to Southampton hospital.

The driver of the Peugeot, owned by a Bournemouth man, was taken to Poole hospital, along with the driver of a silver Citreon and one other person involved.

The road remained closed for recovery work until 5.55pm.

A black BMW was also in the crash, which happened at the junction with Candy’s Lane, near the Esso garage.

A total of five ambulance crews were called out. And a Dorset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said two crews from Wimborne and one from Poole freed three people who were trapped in the vehicles.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened just days after another three-vehicle crash happened nearby.

A resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “This stretch of road is terrible – there are always accidents here.”

Three fire engines and five police cars were also at the scene and diversions were put in place while traffic officers carried out investigations.

A Dorset Police spokesman said the injured woman suffered “life-changing” injuries.

“One of the drivers has suspected fractures to their ankles,” he added.

“The road also had to be closed for the recovery of the vehicles and the local authority was called to remove oil and debris.”

PC Lee Savage from Dorset Police’s Poole Traffic Unit urged anyone who saw the accident, or any of the vehicles before the collision, to contact Dorset Police in confidence on 101.
