THIEVES have fled with jewellery and priceless sentimental items from a New Forest woman’s home – just months after she was at the centre of a terrifying kidnap ordeal.

Janice Grabau from Lymington says a thief has trawled through drawers at her home and taken diamond and emerald earrings worth thousands of pounds, antique silverware and a priceless folder containing memories of her father’s efforts in the Second World War.

The thefts are believed to have taken place between May and July and Mrs Grabau fears the haul has been sold off at car boot sales.

Mrs Grabau, who lives with her husband, said missing items include diamond and emerald earrings worth £5,000, an antique christening spoon from the 1920s, an antique German ivory christening set, an antique silver pickle fork and German silver spoons with the lettersDG and K on each.

Also missing are Mrs Grabau’s Hobbs blue suede shoes, but the left shoe is an inch bigger than the other.

The blue ring folder features pictures of her father, Stanley Bint, during his time serving on HMS Saladin during the Second World War.

It is the second time she has been the victim of crime since December.

Mrs Grabau and her husband were threatened by a gunman outside their home before the assailant stole the couple’s car.

She was forced to sit in the front passenger seat of the car before being returned home around 15 minutes later.

Mrs Grabau said: “This thief has stolen personal sentimental items.

“The stolen silverware belongs to my husband’s family that survived bombings in the Second World War. They lived in Berlin and the apartment block they lived in was bombed. The silverware was salvaged.

“Someone might come forward and help solve this. I have lost thousands on the earrings but the folder and silverware cannot be replaced.

“I was supposed to hand the folder down to my children.”
