THERE are tailbacks on the A31 eastbound after a multi-vehicle accident near the turning for the Ringwood roundabout.

Two fire crews from Ringwood were called to the scene at 3.38pm.

A driver was removed from a blue Vauxhall Corsa and taken to Southampton General Hospital.

It is thought the wheel came off the car and, as the driver swerved, the vehicle rolled over.

Three ambulances, one paramedic car and two fire engines were in attendance.

The eastbound carriageway was closed but has since been reopened after 45 minutes.

Anthony Davis, 82, said: "I heard all the sirens and came out immediately. It was really shocking seeing all the emergency vehicles there.

Ray Thorn, 62, Eastleigh Road, said he heard about the accident around 4pm and heard all the sirens.

He said: "It looks as though the wheel has snapped on a vehicle, we heard that the car rolled several times onto its side. "

There is slow traffic on the westbound carriageway due to drivers slowing down.

The A31 was closed both ways at Sturminster Marshall at the Roundhouse Roundabout for around 30 minutes due to an accident involving a car and a motorbike.

Initially, it was believed that the rider of the motorbike sustained serious injuries, including a broken wrist, but he was taken to Poole Hospital with what are now classed as minor injuries.
