POLICE are hunting a sex attacker who assaulted a woman on a deserted common last week.

The victim was sexually assaulted just off Poole Lane at around 1am on Wednesday, July 10.

The incident is feared to be the latest, and most serious, in a spate of similar occurrences at Kinson Common in the last few weeks.

Geoff Budden, chairman of the Friends of Kinson Common, said he has spoken to the local Safer Neighbourhood Team after reports that one woman was “stalked” by a man on a bike, while another was followed by a man who then exposed himself to her.

“I am absolutely stunned and shocked,” he said.

“It is disgraceful. We have worked very hard to make this a peaceful place for everyone to come and visit, and these types of incident are thankfully rare, but it’s awful to hear about.”

The woman in the latest incident was not injured.

Detective Constable Steve Griffin, of Dorset Police CID, said: “I am appealing for anyone who recognises this man to contact Dorset Police as soon as possible.”

The offender is described as six feet tall, aged in his fifties and of a large build.

He has short hair and was wearing glasses and a black leather jacket.

DC Griffin continued: “I would also urge anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward, in confidence, at the earliest opportunity.”

Following the incident, patrols have been increased in the area.

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 11:213.

Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
