TWO men have been arrested after an alleged robbery at a post office in a North Dorset village.

Police are also investigating an earlier incident in Milborne Port, Somerset, when a man allegedly demanded money but left empty-handed.

During the second incident at the post office in Bishop's Caundle, near Sherborne, police said a man approached staff and obtained cash from the till before leaving.

Staff at the post office activated security measures and the man allegedly fled the scene.

The first incident in Somerset took place at around 10.20am on Monday, July 15, and the second in Bishop's Caundle took place at 11.10am on the same day.

Dorset Police are investigating both incidents but say they are unable to confirm if they are connected.

Two Blandford men, one in his 50s and one in his 40s, have been arrested in Blandford and are helping police with their enquiries.

Acting Detective Inspector Emma Sweetzer, of Weymouth CID, said: “I am appealing for witnesses to come forward as soon as possible.

“I would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have seen a red Nissan Almera car in or around the area of both incidents at the time.

“I urge anyone with information to contact Dorset Police in confidence on 101.”
