TWO brothers are set to cycle nearly 160 miles in memory of their father.
Stuart and Graham Kemp pledged to ride from Luton to Weymouth this weekend in aid of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance after they discovered their late father Tony had been regularly donating to the charity.
Stuart, 42, of Windsor Road in Dorchester, said the family had not been aware that Tony was donating monthly cheques.
He said: “He never mentioned it to us. I think it’s just one of those things that stands out as a good local charity.
“It seemed like a good idea to do something to carry that on in his memory.”
Stuart will be joined by brother Graham, who lives in Bournemouth, daughter Leah, 17, Leah’s boyfriend Harry and a number of friends.
His Younger daughter Keely, 10, will be joining the group for the last few miles.
He said: “My dad was from Luton originally before he moved to Weymouth, and we still have family there, so it seemed a good route.
“A couple of friends said they would keep me company, and we also have someone driving a bus behind us with our stuff.”
The ride is expected to take three days, and they hope to end up at the Moby Dick pub on the Esplanade on Monday, which would have been Tony’s 74th birthday.
The route is 160 miles long, though Stuart said: “It might end up being a bit more by the time we’ve got lost a few times.”
He said he is looking forward to the challenge, but added: “I haven’t been on a bike in years.
“It’s one of those things you sit around discussing on the sofa and it seems a good idea, then everyone knows and it becomes very real.
“We’ve been practising a lot by cycling to the pub.”
The group hope to raise £1,000 for the air ambulance.
