SOUTH Dorset MP Richard Drax will take part in a sponsored walk to raise money for a local youth charity.
Two representatives from IMPACT – Lorna Haines from Swanage, and Mike Cunnington from Christchurch – will join the MP for the walk from Swanage to Weymouth.
IMPACT began in Christchurch in 2006 when the Rev Mike Yates began street-based youth work to engage and support young people who might take part in risky behaviour.
The project now has groups in Swanage and Weymouth, who patrol the streets on Friday nights and help young people to socialise safely.
The team of walkers will leave Swanage Pier at 7.30am on Saturday, July 27.
Mr Drax said: “As a former soldier, I’ve ‘yomped’ a fair few miles in my time, especially over the beautiful Brecon Beacons in Wales.
“Our mission then was to either get superbly fit, or reach the target on foot but on July 27 I shall walk from Swanage to Weymouth, some 31 miles, to raise money for three deserving charities, MV Freedom, The Duke of Edinburgh Awards, and Impact; “Anyone can join me for all or part of the way..”
