A POPULAR Christchurch music festival will celebrate the anniversary of a popular landmark this year.

Stompin’ on the Quomps, which will take place at Christchurch Quay on Saturday August 3, will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Edwardian bandstand.

Bands including LemonGrove, Not Just Sax and Blue Commotion will be perform from midday with The Sound of Blue Note kicking off proceedings.

Special guest will be Ian Shaw – twice a winner of the BBC Jazz Awards – whose repertoire ranges from Noel Coward to Joni Mitchell.

He will be performing with The Taverner’s Big Band.

Adrian Dwyer, festival chairman, said: “Ian has performed with jazz ‘greats’ such as Quincy Jones, Kenny Wheeler, John Dankworth, Jools Holland and Jamie Cullum.

“The bandstand was originally constructed for the town band and paid for by a donation from band chairman Mr Llewellyn.”

Stompin’ on the Quomps is now in its 19th year and is sponsored by JLT Wealth Management.

It starts at midday until 10pm.

There is no charge for entry but the audience can make a donation and buy tickets for a raffle.
