A PENSIONER died of head injuries after stepping into the path of a car as he crossed the road, an inquest heard.
Peter Kemp suffered fatal injuries when he was hit by a silver 3-Series BMW near the Tesco Express on Christchurch Road, Pokesdown.
The accident happened at 7.45pm on Sunday, January 13, and witnesses told the Bournemouth inquest that BMW driver Andrew Bee was driving properly at the time and was not speeding.
District coroner Sheriff Payne heard Mr Kemp, 70, of St Clement’s Road, Boscombe, was crossing the road between parked vehicles and was wearing dark-coloured clothing when he was hit by the car, which was travelling towards Pokesdown station in the Boscombe direction.
Recording a verdict that Mr Kemp died of an accident, Mr Payne said: “This was a very sad and unfortunate incident. The sad fact is that Mr Kemp seems to have miscalculated when to cross.”
