FLIGHTS in and out of airports across the south of England were restricted this morning due to air traffic control issues.

Flights from Bournemouth Airport are not affected although the fault did cause some issues with flights from Southampton Airport.

The National Air Traffic Service released a statement saying they are experiencing technical problems at Swanick and are working to restore full operations.

“This has not resulted in the closure of UK airspace or the suspension of all flights in or out the UK”, the statement said.

“However, to maintain safety NATS is restricting the number of aircraft flying across the south of England and those taking off from London airports.

“We regret any inconvenience this may cause however our first priority will always be the safety of the flying public.

“NATS is taking every step to restore services and has contingency plans in place to minimise any disruption.”

There were a few short delays at Southampton as a result of the fault but passengers are being asked to arrive as normal.

There have been no cancellations.
