SHE may have celebrated her 104th birthday but nothing will stop Hilda Fox from taking a spin around the dance floor.

The Highcliffe resident, who celebrated her momentous birthday on Saturday, was surrounded by friends for a special birthday treat on Wednesday afternoon.

Folk dancers from Christchurch University of the Third Age showed off their skills to former dancer Hilda and other members of the Brendoncare club at Greystones in Highcliffe.

Hilda, an expert ballroom dancer, has lived in Highcliffe for around 20 years.

She moved here from Cheshire after coming for a day trip once, and says she always remembered it.

“I still enjoy dancing, ballroom and the waltz is my favourite”, she said.

“I lived in San Francisco for 20 years, which was wonderful but all my family and friends wanted me to come home.

“My husband, Cyril, and I, won a medal for our dancing once in a competition.”

When asked what the secret to a long and happy life is, Hilda said: “I have always kept active – and I dance a lot. “I have a nice life.”

And Hilda, who still lives in her own home, is planning to keep on dancing right through to her 105th birthday, supported by her friends and volunteers at Brendoncare.
