A POLICEMAN who was accused of a sexual offence and an assault will not face trial today after two women withdrew their complaints.

Dean Andrew was due to appear in front of a jury at Bournemouth Crown Court after being charged with sexually assaulting one woman and assault by beating on another on Poole’s Ashley Road on September 21 last year.

The 37-year-old, of St Clements Road in Poole, has already appeared at Bournemouth’s Magistrates and Crown Courts and denied the two offences.

The two women have now changed their minds and are refusing to give evidence so the case has been dropped by the police and the Crown Prosecution Service.

It is understood the women originally reported that the alleged offences happened in |the early hours of the morning after a night out in one of the local pubs.

Then two officers, both from Dorset Police, were arrested and bailed before Mr Andrew was charged.

The case was not initially referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), but was then passed to them on November 5.

The IPCC decided to leave it in the hands of Dorset Police as the investigation was under way.

But yesterday a force spokesman said the two women had withdrawn their complaints and the case had been dropped, clearing Mr Andrew’s name.

A CPS spokesman said: “We keep cases under continuous review and following a further review of this case we have decided that it was no longer in the public interest to prosecute Dean Andrew.

“We therefore offered no evidence against Mr Andrew on July 4 at Bournemouth Crown Court.”
